The “Twenty-fourth Annual Quiksilver-Kamaaina Nissan Big Island Pro AM Surfing Trials” was held on Saturday, August 9th at Honolii Beach Park in Hilo in good conditioned 4 to 6 foot surf . Best wave of the day for men was ridden by Brandon Ahuna while Shruti Greenwood had the women’s best wave. Soleil Farnsworth was Men's Open champion repeating his last year win. Koa Enriquez also repeats as longboard champ. The top four winners in the Men’s Open division and the top two in the Longboard, Bodyboard and Women's Open divisions receive entry into a professional surfing competition on Oahu. A bit of surfing trivia the Longboard Open second place winner Wayne Victorino was the open men’s winner at the First Big-Island Pro-Am held at Drainpipes in Kalapana in 1984. A Surftech Brewer gun was awarded to Soleil Farnsworth as the grand champion prize.
