The “Twenty-seventh Annual Quiksilver-Kamaaina Motors Big Island Pro-am Surfing Trials” was held under a high surf advisory. With ten foot face waves Hawaii Island surfers had a big canvas to paint their skills and win a chance to compete on a North Shore pro competition. This year’s sponsors include Quiksilver Sportswear, Kama’aina Motors, Kama’aina Kimo’s Used Cars, Orchid Land Surfboards, KWXX FM, Freestyle USA, Da Kine Hawaii, Reef World, Dean Edwards Big Rock Color Works, Kappa Productions, Manta Bodyboards, Hawaiian Arts, Kilauea WebWorks, Island Trust Properties, Kosmic Cones, Honolii Paka, Kitty-Cap Production, Cafe Pesto, Basically Books, Big Island Resource Conservation and Development, Custom X and Suncloud Sunglasses. Prizes include 10 roundtrip airfares and 10 entries to a North Shore professional surf contest to be held between October 2010 and February 2011. Entries to pro surf contests are highly sought after worldwide and are valued at $150 each. Winning surfers will also get sponsor prizes. Prizes valued at over $3000 will be awarded to four men, two body boarders, two longboarders and two women. Contest director Stan Lawrence of Orchid Land Surfboards said: “It was another epic contest. Beautiful weather, terrific waves, big performances. Everything went super smooth. The spectators were happy. The contestants were happy. The judges were happy. What else can I say?” |
